Dr Paul Athanasiov graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Adelaide University. He then went on to do his formal training and accreditation in Ophthalmic surgery by the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology (RANZCO) with further sub-specialist training at the Royal Adelaide Hospital in areas of Cornea, Glaucoma and complex cataract surgery.
